Is the Galaxy S25 Ultra Still the King, or is the S26 Ultra a Must-Buy? - Main image

We’ve all been there. You’re standing in the store, looking at the brand-new, shiny Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra. It looks amazing. But then, you look to the left and see last year’s S25 Ultra with a massive "Price Drop" sticker on it.

Is the newer one really worth the extra $400, or is the "old" one actually the smarter buy? Let’s break it down simply.

A. The "Mirror" Test (Design & Screen)

At first glance, these two look like twins. They both have that giant, beautiful 6.9-inch screen.

  • S25 Ultra: Introduced the "Gorilla Armor" glass that stops reflections. It’s like looking at paper instead of a mirror.
  • S26 Ultra: It’s slightly thinner (7.9mm) and has more rounded corners so it doesn't "poke" your palm.

The Verdict: If you use a case, you won’t even feel the difference. The S25 Ultra is already a design masterpiece.

B. The "Privacy Shield" (The S26's Secret Weapon)

This is the S26 Ultra's biggest "party trick." It has a new feature called Privacy Display. With a tap, the screen makes itself invisible to anyone looking from the side. It’s perfect for the subway or a crowded plane.

Is it worth it?

  • If you handle sensitive work emails on the go, yes. If not, the S25 Ultra’s screen is still one of the best in the world.

C. The Brains (AI & Speed)

As is usually the case, both Galaxies are fitted with an overclocked version of the flagship Snapdragon chipset. In the case of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it's the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC "for Galaxy", while the S26 Ultra upgrades that to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 "for Galaxy". The main cores are clocked slightly higher, as well as the GPU too.

Memory configurations are pretty much identical. All storage versions get 12GB of RAM, although the 1TB storage version this year gets 16GB of RAM instead. The base storage remains 256GB, while the middle configuration is 512GB.

Going by the synthetic benchmark tests, the Galaxy S26 Ultra outperforms the S25 Ultra, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. In the CPU-heavy Geekbench test, the S26 Ultra outpaces the S25 Ultra by about 17%, while the mixed AnTuTu 11 test shows 19% gains with the newer model. In the GPU-heavy 3DMark Wild Life Extreme test, the newer Ultra has approximately 16% advantage over its predecessor.

However, the S25 Ultra is no slouch. It was the first "AI Phone" that actually worked smoothly. In 2026, it still feels lightning-fast. You won't notice a "lag" on the older model for years to come.

D. The Charging Gap

This is where the S26 Ultra actually pulls ahead for busy people.

  • S25 Ultra: Charges at 45W (about an hour for a full charge).
  • S26 Ultra: Finally jumped to 60W charging.

With the new Galaxy S26 Ultra, charging speed which has always been a problem for the Galaxy S series is no longer an issue. Compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra's 45W charging, the phone is now rated to enable 60W rapid wired charging over Power Delivery.

The new Ultra is now competitive in the flagship market and significantly outperforms its predecessor. When it comes to charging, the Galaxy S Ultra is no longer a slouch.

E. The Camera: Same Hardware, New Eyes

Both phones use a massive 200-megapixel main camera.

The S26 Ultra has slightly "better eyes" (wider apertures) for taking videos at night. Unless you are a professional filmmaker or a midnight hiker, you will struggle to see a major difference between a photo taken on an S25 vs. an S26. Both take incredible moon shots and stunning portraits.

F. The "Wallet" Reality (The Real Reason to Buy the S25)

In April 2026, the S25 Ultra is seeing massive discounts. You can often find it for under $850, while the S26 Ultra sits firmly at $1,299+.

You are basically paying $450 extra for a privacy screen, slightly faster charging, and a thinner body.

G. Final Thoughts: Which One is For You?

Buy the S25 Ultra if: You want 95% of the best technology for 60% of the price. It is a "resolved" phone it has no bugs, the battery is solid, and it will get software updates until 2032.

Buy the S26 Ultra if: You love having the absolute newest "thing," you work in public and need that privacy screen, or you really, really hate waiting an extra 15 minutes for your phone to charge.
